South Loop Animal Hospital’s Support Staff

Carrie, Hospital Manager

Carrie

Carries has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Missouri. She has over 10 years of experience working with animals in various capacities, including nearly five years spent working at one of the largest animal shelters in the country.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she currently lives in Lakeview with her husband, Steve, and two mixed breed dogs (Emmit and Tucker). In her spare time, Carrie enjoys reading, watching movies, and exploring Chicago.

Crystal, Certified Veterinary Technician

Crystal

Crystal is one of our certified veterinary technicians. She graduated from the Vet Tech Institute at Fox College in December 2010 and received her certification in March 2011.

At home she meticulously cares for a menagerie of beloved pets, including two cats, one gerbil, two hamsters, a mouse, an aquarium of fish, two parakeets, a tortoise, and a hare. Crystal would do anything to help an animal, and she loves the opportunity at South Loop Animal Hospital to practice a variety of skills and techniques.

Katie, Certified Veterinary Technician

Crystal

Katie grew up in Dubuque, Iowa and graduated from the Kirkwood Community College Veterinary Technology program in 2004. She then moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked as a certified veterinary technician for seven years. She recently moved to Chicago and is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends in the Midwest. Katie’s favorite part of being a CVT is the time she gets to spend with clients and patients.

When she is not at work “having fun with puppies and kitties,” Katie enjoys listening to (and singing along with) music, sewing, and exploring Chicago. Katie also spends her free time with her boyfriend, Ben, their dog and two cats.

Sara G, Certified Veterinary Technician

Crystal

Sara is a Certified Veterinary Technician, and has been working in the animal medical field since 2000. She strives to make each visit to South Loop Animal Hospital a pleasant experience for both pet and owner. Sara lives in Evanston with her husband, Sean, who is very supportive of her tendency to bring home stray animals. (Most recently, a wounded baby bunny named Flash.)

Shira, Veterinary Assistant

Shira

Shira received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology along with a minor in Biochemistry from Augustana College in May of 2011. While attending Augustana, she held a Veterinary Assistant position at a local clinic in the Quad Cities. Shira is currently attending Roosevelt University to obtain her Masters in Biology, with hopes of one day studying Veterinary Medicine.

Shira has two cats of her own, Oliver and Isa, as well as two family cats, Muffin and Lily, and two family dogs, Sasha and Tucker. She grew up on a farm and has always had an enormous love for animals of all kinds. She hopes that the experience she gains at South Loop Animal Hospital will help her to reach her future goals to become a Veterinarian herself.

Lynn, Receptionist

Lynn

Lynn is a receptionist at South Loop Animal Hospital, and sometimes fills in as a veterinary assistant. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Public Health. She recently moved back to Chicago from Washington, DC, where she worked in animal and human health care.

Lynn now lives in Wicker Park with her boyfriend, Brian, and her 2-year old Wheaten Terrier, Chase. Chase immensely enjoys all the new smells brought home each day. She is also attending nursing school at University of Illinois, Chicago.

Sarah S, Receptionist

Sarah

Sarah is a recent transplant from the Valley of the Sun (Scottsdale, AZ) where she brings with her not just a sunny disposition, but a Bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and 12 years of experience in the veterinary field.

Sarah lives with her husband, her chocolate lab named Marvin, and her cat, Cougar. She and her husband travel every chance they can. When not traveling, they enjoy taking advantage of Chicago’s many diverse opportunities to “travel” at home.

Susan, Receptionist

Susan

Susan brings to South Loop Animal Hospital 15 years of administrative experience and greatly enjoys meeting and getting to know all of our patients and their owners.

Susan's favorite times are spent with her two teenage children, her Golden Retriever, Riley as well as running, cooking and reading.

Julie, Receptionist

Julie

Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and creative writing from Oberlin College and a Master of Arts in Teaching from National-Louis University. A lifelong animal lover, she enjoys working at South Loop Animal Hospital and getting to know the cat and dogs that visit us.

At home, Julie loves to cook and spend time with her husband, their four-legged cat, Slash, and their three-legged cat, Nico.
